Quick Bites: Clif Bars’ Gary’s Panforte Bar
There once was an active dude
Who had a crazy fixation on food.
When out in the field,
To his Clif Bars he’d yield,
Because they all tasted so good.

So yeah, I’m a fan of Clif Bars. Their wide range of flavors (especially White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, Black Cherry Almond, and the delightfully caffeinated Peanut Toffee Buzz) and fairly high calorie count (around 250 calories a pop) are enough to keep me going between meals on the trail. So spoiler alert: I dig their newest flavor, Gary’s Panforte.
Inspired by his time spent cycling in Northern Italy, founder Gary Erickson created the new flaver based on panforte, a traditional Italian dessert cake with fruit, nuts and spices (imagine a fruit cake that actually tastes good). There’s a slew of great ingredients in the Panforte bar, including hazelnuts, pistachios, figs, pears, citrus peel, cinnamon, and ginger, all of which come together to make a very unique-tasting bar.
The combination of fruits and spices gives the bar a more savory taste than most bars, which is great, since I tend get sick of the sweetness of most trail foods, and the nuts make the bar feel more like “food” than most bars.
Before you go out and buy a few boxes, I’d recommend trying one first, because that spiciness doesn’t do it for everybody. I’ve forced Gary’s Panforte on a few people, and for every three smiles I’ve gotten a grimace, so try before you buy.
But I’m pretty sure you’ll buy.

Yup. The Clif is a goodie. I’ll have to try that flavor. I like that Clif Bars don’t really melt in the heat like many other bars do.
