Gear We Like: Arc’teryx Accelero Jacket
My 2010 Arc’teryx Accelero Jacket is an incredibly comfortable and all around sweet running jacket. It’s my go-to for those chilly runs or for wearing around town and watching other runners get jealous of my steez.
The jacket’s windproof nylon on the front and arms keeps away the wind chill, while breathable panels on the back and sides vent excess heat and moisture. The sleek fit and breathability make this jacket an essential to cool weather exercise, and essential to looking cool (get what I did there?).
My first experience was on a 1.5 hour trail run in about 40 degree weather. I wore a running shirt underneath and the jacket kept me warm and comfortable; in fact, it’s so lightweight that I forgot I was wearing it. After that run, I was sold.
I feel confident enough in the jacket to wear it on colder running days also with the help of a base layer and during my early morning runs, and the jacket provides good reflective attributes so that I don’t get hit by motorists on my way to the trail.
My wife occasionally steals my jacket to wash it but beyond that, I’m wearing it every chance I get. To further validate my love of this jacket, others have approached me when I wear it and have “gear envy”.
The Accelero’s fabric is extremely breathable, wicks moisture, and stretches with out as you move. With the exception of not having pockets (except a small sleeve pocket on the upper arm), this jacket is morning run perfection.
The current version goes for about $140. Check it out here.
