SealLine iSeries™ Waterproof iPhone Case – Way Better Than A Sandwich Baggie
SealLine iSeries iPhone Case, $25 without the headphone jack; $35 with it. www.seallinegear.com
The Good: I can update my Facebook status right up to the edge of that class 3 rapid.
The Bad: Sinks like a rock, with my spendy little apple product safely inside.
With clear cameras and a myriad of apps, the iPhone seems to find its way into every adventure I find myself on. It is the grape jelly to my chunky peanut butter; the Justin to my Beiber. I tell myself it’s a safety thing (what if I need to make a call?!), but really it’s all about catching an epic Facebook pic like this. Unfortunately, this polished silicon marvel is as fragile as my grip on reality, and it terrifies me to think of a day without it by my side.
On that note, the SealLine iSeries™ iPhone case is cheap protection for my little electronic tether. There is a clean and secure side closure that’s rated for 1 meter submersion; so of course I took it down to 3 meters without a single drop making it past the seal. I have taken this dry bag on at least a dozen trips out in the water guiding new paddlers, kayaking whitewater, swimming rapids, and recording my daughters underwater in the pool.
The front of the case is made of clear polyurethane that allows for touch interaction through the cover, and also has a clear section in the back for pictures. The rest of the case is made of a durable polyurethane coated polyester with a nice texture for great grip in the water. The low profile side closure worked flawlessly and I never saw a leak. My only gripe would be that with no redundant seal like a hook and loop I couldn’t resist checking it frequently to make sure it didn’t come open. The case has two clean die-cut lash points, one on each corner. There are two options with or without a headphone jack with a $10 difference in price for the latter.
It’s very safe to say this case has been put through the paces, and I won’t hesitate to strap it to my gear and dive right in. So if you want to bring your shiny little smartphone into the wilderness, throw it in one of these and focus on having some fun.
