If you follow us on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, then you know we dig Topo Athletic’s Rx training shoes for our WODs. Well, now you can see for yourself. Topo’s giving us two pairs to give away to worthy WODders. Who wants a pair? All you have to do is send a picture of how you suffer at your gym - could be a crazy face when you’re doing cleans, a nasty flapper from kipping, or a pic of you crashed out on the floor after Helen. Email the pic, along with a short description here ([email protected]). I’ll pick my favorites and post the two winners next Wednesday.
You guys read Trek Tech, so I know you’re as sick as I am. Go get it.
If you don’t follow us on the networks, shame on you. But here’s a rehash anyway:
Topo Athletic RX Trainers 7.8oz, $110; topoathletic.com
The Good: Zero heel-toe drop for stability on lifts and 14mm stack height for protection during running WODs.
The Bad: Wide toebox, not for people who hate things between their toes.
The Ugly: Personally, I like the ninja look, but it’s not for everyone.
As the name implies, Topo’s RX trainers are built for crossfitters, and apparently, they’ve been designed by someone who’s done a WOD or two. The evidence is in the details: the laces are held down with a Velcro strap to keep them from coming undone during rope climbs (the strap’s meant to provide midfoot support, but I dug the lace management); the rubber rand around the toebox was a lifesaver during doubleups, and the 7mm midsole gave just enough cushion during the run portion of “Helen.” Bonus: The zero-drop profile and split toe design gave an extremely stable platform during heavy squats.
