Tech Gear: Hitcase Pro+ iPhone 5 Waterproof Case

www.hitcase.com/iphone5 $150

The Good: Rugged, Durable, Waterproof, and great videos. With the upgraded glass lens from the last model, the quality really stepped it up. Can’t get much better than that.

The Bad: Pricy for a case, and it’s too bulky for daily protection. Space is limited to the memory on the iPhone which is probably chock full of The Black Keys and Katy Perry songs.

The Awesome: Grabbing that sweet video without worrying about dropping your fragile phone in the mud.

We reviewed the last version of the Hitcase when we had the iPhone 4, and it was an impressive case. Fully waterproof and durable with a nice mounting system, it was exactly the kind of case we like to take along on the more. . . brutal adventures. Now with the new upgraded iPhone 5 case, the company has made something great even better. The Hitcase still has an internal cushioning system, hard shell, and three burly snap closures, but the sound is now cleaner and the lens is interchangeable with either a flat lens, or 3x wide angle to catch all the action.

We took the Hitcase out for some fun in the mountains, kayaking, and out to the lake a few times with great pictures and video up to the point that the internal memory filled up.  The main downside to the system is the limits of the iPhone memory and getting the media off of the phone and onto the computer to edit/upload. The mounting system on the case kept everything secured but was easy to stow in a hurry. It’s also compatible with GoPro systems, so tossing onto an already installed mount was a snap. We tested the case for over an hour in about 6 feet of water with no hints of a leak, and after a few drops on pavement it barely a scratch.

So pop your sensitive little iPhone into this burly case and go have an adventure, your phone will come back without a scratch and you’ll have the videos to prove it.

I bought the Hitcase Pro+ upgrade kit from Hitcase. Unfortunately adding the new faceplate shattered the attachment of the Hitcase Pro base so my Hitcase is no longer waterproof. So if you are thinking of upgrading from a Hitcase Pro to Pro+ this is an issue. Perhaps there is a way to do it without harm to the product but as no instructions come its hard to know.

    Hi David,

What faceplate did you add? Was it a screen protector? Sounds like something the company would love to hear about, shoot them over an e-mail and let them know!
