TriggerPoint’s CORE Roller is a good entry level foam roller or injury recovery aid. Comes in a versatile 36″ or packable 18″ size. For those wanting deeper massage, get a GRID or GRID X.
The CORE Roller’s construction sets itself apart from lesser competitors. Cheap rollers tend to have an outer ‘tortilla’ of foam that separates from the center as you roll. Solid design prevents the Core Roller from breaking down, even after repeated use.
Another feature that sets the CORE foam roller apart from other entry level rollers is the variety of indentations and patterns intended to provide a different feeling. They are intended to mimic different massage pressure methods-palm, fingers and fingertips. We couldn’t feel the difference one to another, but TriggerPoint’s website indicates that these patterns increase circulation and help enhance mobility.
For a seasoned foam roller who really likes pain, this is not the roller for you. To feel the patterns and achieve penetration to deeper tissue, progress to the GRID or GRID X. Each one provides increasing density for more intense massage. Increased density also includes increased discomfort…but oh, it hurts so good.
